Arvo Pärt

Arvo Pärt is an estonian composer of classical music. He is of the minimalist tradition, which means that the music is simple in its form, although in this case, the emotion it ignites is impressively profound. Anyway, I’m going to leave the introduction of Arvo Pärt to Björk, since she does it damn well in this interview.

Isn’t deep understanding between two people a beautiful thing?
My two favorite pieces by this composer are “Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten”, which is in the interview and can be heard in its entirety here, as long as you completely ignore the movie that entails it (really, this is the best quality version I found for free on the ‘net), and Spiegel Im Spiegel. Both pieces are like a meditation in themselves, and playing the last one on the piano has been a great way for me to clear my sometimes noisy mind.
So, I hope you enjoy the music, and if classical isn’t really your cup of tea, maybe you’ll enjoy this wonderful song instead…
